PROJECTs @DISAFA

PROSPEcT - "Disabling S-genes in Solanaceae species" (2020-2023)

Scientific Coordinator: Alberto Acquadro

  • The PROSPEcT project relies on Pathogen Resistance introduction in commercially important hOrticultural Species in PiEdmonT, aimed at developing genotypes of potato, tomato and pepper varieties resistant/tolerant to late blight (LB) and powdery mildew (PM) diseases.

  • Target susceptibility genes (S-GENES) will be disabled through the application of the CRISPR/Cas9 technique have been already identified in potato, tomato and pepper. The target genes will be MLO, PRM4 and DMR6, as they confer resistance to late blight (LB) and/or powdery mildew (PM).

CRIKET - "Disabling PPO genes in eggplant" (2017-2020)

Scientific Coordinator: Andrea Moglia

  • The project entitled CRISPR/Cas9–mediated gene knock-out in Eggplant for the improvement of quality and nutritional Traits (CRIKET) focuses on the application of the CRISPR/Cas9 system to induce knock-out mutations in PPO genes, in order to lower the browning of the berries in eggplant genotypes;

QUALIMEC, BIOTECH project - CREA-GB (2021-2022)

The University of Torino was awarding of a specialist service to support the research activities of the QUALIMEC project, Lot 3, aimed at the development and analysis of artichokes with reduced browning by inactivating PPO. BIOTECH project

Scientific Coordinator (globe artichoke): Sergio Lanteri (Unito), Giuseppe Leonardo Rotino (CREA-GB)
